Holidays in Rovinj
Rovinj, the most romantic town in Istria, is famous as one of the most picturesque towns on the Mediterranean. It is situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, on the south of the Lim canal. Rovinj was developed on a small island, which was connected to the mainland during the Middle age. It has a history of more than 1700 years and it is marked by the changes of many different rulers: Byzantines, Goths, Venetians, Austrians and others. Each of them has left traces in the architecture of the historical town, dominated by the St. Euphemia’s church from the XVIII century, built in baroque style, with its bell tower, one of the tallest in Istria. The bell tower is similar to the bell tower of the St. Marcus church in Venice, and that is probably one of the reasons why Rovinj is also known as “little Venice”. A must to visit is the “street of artists” Grisia where can be found numerous art galleries of academic artists who found inspiration for their work in Rovinj.
The development of tourism started in the 1970’s, when numerous hotels were built in many Istrian locations. Changes in the market through the years have changed Rovinj which today caters for individual tourists and families, who find accommodation in the various hotels and tourist settlements such as Amarin or Villas Rubin.
