VRSAR
Vrsar is a small fishing village, situated on the western coast of Istria, to the north of Lim fjord. Like many Istrian towns Vrsar has an interesting history that takes us back in time. Traces of the Palaeolithic and Neolithic age were found in the cave of Saint Roulade near Vrsar. Over the centuries Vrsar has changed its ownership many times. In Roman times it was the summer centre of the bishops from Poreč. Later on it endured the French occupation led by Napoleon Bonaparte, and then became part of the Hapsburg Empire until, after the First world-war, it passed into Italian domination. At the end of the Second World War it became an integral part of Croatia. The development of tourism began in the 60’s. Vrsar could not compete with the large holidays venues on the western Istrian coast and decided at that time to cater for the popular, although not very widespread, holiday format of naturism.Today, the city of Vrsar caters above all for families with children, for young couples and for all those people wanting to experience the charm of a small fishing village, which, in his time, also fascinated the famous Giacomo Casanova.
