Kvarner Region

KVARNER

The county "Primorsko Goranska", better known as the Kvarner region, is one of the areas with the oldest tourist tradition in Croatia, whose beginnings date from the middle of the XIX century, at which time this area was a popular place for winter holidays among the Austrian Hungarian aristocracy. This region is composed of three different, but equally attractive, parts. The first to mention is the shoreline “Primorje”, which extends from the “Liburnijska Riviera” below the “Učka” mountains and along the coast as far as Senj.

Next are the islands consisting of the four largest Adriatic islands - Krk, Cres, Losinj and Rab. The third part is the mountain known as "Gorski Kotar", sometimes also called “Croatian Switzerland”.

The centre of the region is the former main port of the Austrian monarchy - Rijeka, which is today the economic and administrative centre of the region, richly decorated with architectural inheritances from past times, with its lively city centre, many coffee bars and several different shopping centres.

While in the Kvarner region you should not miss the opportunity to visit this city.

OPATIJA COAST
The coast of Opatija is an elegant shoreline region in the gulf of Kvarner, which includes ten attractive hotels which had their golden moment at the beginning of XX century, thanks to the presence of numerous European aristocratic families.

The most important place is naturally the town of Opatija, where Austrian emperors and kings, dukes and counts lived in fine villas and hotels while they sought recovery on the coast.

One of the most important reasons for their attendance was the mild Mediterranean climate and the proximity to Vienna, which is still nowadays a reason why Opatija is so popular for the inhabitants of Central Europe.
