The island of Solta is an oasis of peace in the archipelago of the central Dalmatian islands, situated on the west of the island of Brac and divided from the mainland by the Split channel. The most important settlements on the island are Grohote, Gornje selo, Srednje selo and Donje selo and are located in the interior part of the island. The bays Rogac, Necujam and Stomorska are the ferryboat ports of the island. The island was first mentioned by the ancient Greeks and known as Olynthia, the ancient Romans gave it the name Solenta and in the constitution of Split from the 14th century it became Solta. Nowadays Solta is well known for its excellent olive oil and its friendly people.
