Middle Dalmatia
Dive into the colourful scenery of the middle-Dalmatian coast, a region in which the coast and the sea are closely connected. The mild climate is spiced by the essences of rosemary, pine, lavender and sage. This climate is ideal for the cultivation of wine grapes and several kinds of fruit. In this region there are also many hundred-year old olive trees, from which is produced the most excellent olive oil and which is famous both in Croatia and abroad. The most important economical activities in the region are agriculture and tourism. The crystal clear sea water of the Adriatic washes the wonderful coastline and the numerous islands. The middle part of Dalmatia is situated between Primošten in the north and the fertile valley of the river Neretva in the south. The capital of the region is Split, which originates from the time of Roman emperor Diocletianus, whose palace is still today the most important monument in the town. In front of Split is located the island Brač with its Vidova gora (the highest hill in the Adriatic islands) and the “Golden Horn”, probably the most beautiful beach in Dalmatia.
