ŠIBENIK
Šibenik is the most ancient city on the Croatian shoreline.  It rests in a gulf which, thanks to the surrounding nature, is the best protected port of the Adriatic. The old part of the town with its narrow lanes is worth seeing, beneath the fortress of the holy Ana. From here can be admired the wonderful panorama of the city and the bridge of Krka. The most important monument in Šibenik is the cathedral of Saint Jacob. It is considered to be the most impressing building on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. Opposite the cathedral, in the Republic Square, are the former city hall and the rector’s palace. For the historically-minded visitor and also for romantics there is much to discover in the narrow lanes. Since 1958, between the end of June and the beginning of July, the international festival for children takes place in Šibenik. In that period the city becomes the meeting point for cultures of the whole world. Not far away from Šibenik is the delta of the Krka River, which pushes itself for 2.5 km along a channel before breaking through to the sea.
