NIN
Nin is one of the historically most interesting places in northern Dalmatia. It lies on an island in a shallow lagoon, in the middle of the Salts Sea and connected to the main land by two bridges. Under the name of Aenona it was already an important centre in the Liburnian age. In Roman times the adjoining Aenona became a strategically important port. Destroyed by the Avarien in the VII century, it was rebuilt by the Croatians. Later it became a residence of the monarchs and a centre for bishops.
Today it is in first place as a tourist attraction that, apart from its history and its culture, offers the most wonderful sandy beaches on the Croatian coast. Sabukine, a town close to Nin, is a calm place with restaurants and several business activities. In Sabunike you can find flat sandy beaches which are very rare in Croatia. It is particularly suitable for families with children.
Excursions available: to the national Park Plitvice lakes, the Kornati islands, Paklenica, and the Krka River waterfalls. Particularly interesting is the island of Pag, connected to the mainland by a bridge, rich in monuments and culinary specialties. The city of Zadar in the centre of the region, with its secular history and its culture, are worth visiting.
