Description

Originally built in 1946, all superstructures were removed and the hull completely hollowed out in the winter of 1999/2000. The Šango family from Privlaka near Zadar wanted to build a completely "new" motor glider. Diligence and effort paid off, as the Kažimir became not only the largest wooden ship in our fleet at the time, but also the first to have cabins on deck exclusively. Captain Kaže has long since enjoyed a well-deserved retirement and has handed over command to his son Kažo (called Braco), who now runs the Kažimir together with his wife Zdenka and his son Renato. The three of them have invested a lot of work, diligence and money over the last few winters to freshen up the ship. Every guest who has already been on board the Kažimir will notice this immediately – whether in the salon, in the cabins or on deck. For the 2020 season, the planking of the entire hull was renewed – on this occasion, the Kažimir also received a new look in terms of colour. Incidentally, Renato has been at the helm as captain for a few years now.

General data: Length 39 m, built in 1946, reconstructed in 2000, renovated 2016-2020. 32 beds in 15 cabins with shower/toilet, individually controllable air conditioning and hair dryer.

Main deck: 2 triple cabins with queen-size bed and 3rd bed above, 6 double cabins with queen-size bed.
Upper deck: 4 double cabins with queen-size bed, 3 twin cabins with bunk beds.

Other: Sun deck (150 m²) with 20 deck chairs, new lounge area for 10 persons on the upper deck in front of the wheelhouse, as well as at the stern of the upper deck for 8 persons, chairs and benches on deck, saloon with air conditioning for 32 persons.

Our cruises are not suitable for persons with disabilities or reduced mobility.

Impressions from the itinerary

Route

This route mainly takes in smaller towns and fishing villages, and the highlights are certainly the "prison island" of Goli Otok and the Telašćica Nature Park on the island of Dugi Otok.
Route:
Rijeka – Crikvenica – Island of Krk – Island of Goli Otok – Island of Rab – Telašćica Nature Park – Island of Molat – Island of Ilovik – Island of Lošinj – Island of Cres – Rijeka

If you arrive in Rijeka with your own car, you can drive into the harbour and directly to your ship from 08:30 am to 12:00 noon at the latest. Here you will unload your luggage, which will first be stored under our care until the cabins are ready for occupancy at 11:30 am. Our service team will then guide you to the garage and transfer you back to the port. This is followed by a welcome drink from our tour guide and getting to know the crew and fellow passengers. We weigh anchor in the direction of the seaside resort of Crikvenica. We first call at a bay on the east coast of the island of Krk to dive into the wonderful waters of the Adriatic for the first time. We then continue to Crikvenica, where we will spend the night.

The port of embarkation for passengers depends on flight times. If you book your flight and transfer via I.D. Riva Tours and arrive at Rijeka airport by 11:30 am, embarkation in Rijeka is guaranteed; if you arrive later, embarkation will be at the first port of accommodation.

After breakfast we sail south along the east coast of the island of Krk. After a swim break and lunch on board, we sail to the bay of Baška at the southern end of the island of Krk. The landmark of Baška is the two-kilometre-long fine-gravel beach that stretches along the entire bay. Opportunity for dinner in one of the numerous restaurants and overnight stay.

From Baška we first drive to the island of Goli Otok. This served as a prison and labour camp until the end of the 1980s and is uninhabited today. By the way, the name means "naked island", as it is quite barren and offers hardly any shade. After we have moored here, we have the opportunity to see the island with the remains of the prison camp or to take a round trip on the miniature railway "Goli Express" (seasonal). After lunch on board, we first head for one of the countless bays on the island of Rab for an extended bathing break before entering the port of the town of Rab in the late afternoon. Afterwards, a guided tour of the old town. The old town of Rab with its striking bell towers stretches out on a narrow, rocky headland, surrounded by water on three sides. Three streets run through the Old Town – the "Lower Street" with cafés and pubs, the "Middle Street" with boutiques, souvenir shops and ice cream parlours, and the "Upper Street" leading to the four churches with their bell towers. Opportunity for dinner in one of the restaurants and overnight in Rab.

Our destination today is the Telašćica Nature Park, a protected bay cut about ten kilometres deep into the island of Dugi Otok. Striking features are the steep cliffs up to 161 m high and the saltwater lake Mir, which are only a few minutes' walk from the ship's landing stage. We will also spend the night in the idyll of this nature park.

Today we have a somewhat longer sea voyage ahead of us. The journey to the small island of Ilovik takes about six hours – interrupted by a bathing break in one of the bays on the island of Molat – and is also called "flower island" because of the splendour of the blossoms in the gardens of the colourful houses. Opportunity for dinner in one of the restaurants on Ilovik and overnight stay.

We set off for the neighbouring island of Lošinj, which is not only known for having 300 cloudless or only slightly cloudy sunny days a year, but is also covered in dense pine forests. With a bit of luck, we might be able to watch dolphins playing in the waves today, as there are more than 220 dolphins registered by the "Adriatic Dolphin Project" living in the waters around the island of Lošinj. After about an hour's drive, we dock in the port of Mali Lošinj, where you will have the opportunity to stroll through the town or have a leisurely coffee right by the sea. During lunch we continue to the neighbouring island of Cres, which is connected to the island of Lošinj by a swing bridge. After a swim break, we arrive in Martinšćica, a cosy fishing village.

Today we say goodbye to the Croatian islands. From Martinšćica we sail along the west coast of the island of Cres and the east coast of Istria back to Rijeka – not without having had another opportunity to swim in one of the bays on the island of Cres. Overnight stay in the port of Rijeka.

Port of Rijeka - Kvarner Region

Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and the largest and most important seaport of the country. Rijeka is just a few hours by car from central Europe – public transportation (bus and train) depart from several countries on a daily base. The airport is located 30 kilometres outside Rijeka on the island of Krk. The city centre is close to the harbour and offers fantastic shopping opportunities, plus a number of cultural monuments and many places of interest. There is plenty of evening entertainment along the harbour road, the “Riva”.
