MS Aria / Route R7

Port of Rijeka - Kvarner Region

Deluxe

Description

Captain Jure Tomaš and his MS Planka have been an integral part of our fleet since 1998. Since his son Marin has also been a captain for years now, Jure and Marin decided to build a new ship in the summer of 2014. The result was impressive, because in June 2016 the MS Aria, a majestic motorized sailing ship, went on its maiden voyage – the height from the waterline to the mast top is 32 m. A 675 hp engine gives the Aria a top speed of 12 knots, while the normal cruising speed is a comfortable 8 to 9 knots – after all, you should be able to enjoy the Adriatic Sea and its islands in peace. After three years, Jure has replaced his son Marin at the helm of the Aria, while Marin took care of the family's next ship newbuilding. By the way, the name "Aria" does not come from the aria in the opera or from the Italian word for air, but stands for "weather" in Dalmatian dialect.

Impressions from the itinerary

Route

It is not easy to set up routes at the desk that would turn out to be ideal for the entire season. Once an itinerary is advertised in the catalogue, the captain must follow it. Anyhow, our cruises among a thousand islands cannot be as precise as the Swiss Railways, but rather go hand in hand with nature. How can the obligation of a tour operator, who needs to describe the travel program in a catalogue, be reconciled with the experience that it is often best to decide spontaneously to stay in a sheltered bay to swim, or to moor in a small fishing village, the name of which never showed up in the printed program? Just leave it to the captain – spontaneously and without any obligation to adhere to the usual routes – to create his route, depending on the weather and to show his guests familiar sites, as well as hidden secrets outside these routes. This was the wish of our captains, who often tell us – “The happiest of our charter guests are those, with whom we discuss the program and the route together.”
In order to make this possible also for our guests who book their cruises individually, and not as part of a charter group, we have listened to the proposals of our guests and captains and offer special Captains’ Tours, following the motto – “Let’s trust the captain – he will put together an interesting route for us, because ultimately, he knows the sea and the Croatian islands best!”

Exclusive Captain's Route – the insider tip for individualists
The Captain's Route ex Rijeka:
* From 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, boarding time in the port of Rijeka.
* The port of embarkation for passengers arriving by plane depends on the flight schedule. With transfer booking via I.D. Riva Tours and flight arrival to Rijeka airport until 11:30 am, embarkation in the port of Rijeka is guaranteed. Passengers arriving later will be transferred to the first port of call for embarkation.
* The itinerary is not prescribed, but created by the captain in a flexible way. Considering weather and sea conditions, he will show you his favourite bays and places.
* At least two nights in sheltered coves and small fishing villages.
* A maximum of three nights in major towns, visited by the route R1, possibly not on the same days as other ships.
* Whenever possible, the group will avoid meeting groups from other boats and sharing overnight locations.

Port of Rijeka - Kvarner Region

Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and the largest and most important seaport of the country. Rijeka is just a few hours by car from central Europe – public transportation (bus and train) depart from several countries on a daily base. The airport is located 30 kilometres outside Rijeka on the island of Krk. The city centre is close to the harbour and offers fantastic shopping opportunities, plus a number of cultural monuments and many places of interest. There is plenty of evening entertainment along the harbour road, the “Riva”.

Sojourn tax and harbour fees are not included in the prices and are payable in cash on board upon embarkation. These are € 49 per person and week, € 24 for children up to 12 years.

Tip recommendation: You will certainly be happy to reward the service crew’s performance with a tip. We recommend an amount from € 10-15 per cabin and day.
